The Diploma in Banking & Finance Examination will be held along with the JAIIB Examination of the Institute effective from December 2008. It will be held at all the examination centres of JAIIB. The examination will be held in off-line mode only. Candidates who have opted for on-line mode are being approached separately to ascertain their choice afresh.

RULES AND SYLLABUS of Diploma of Banking and Finance



Eligibility:

Any person who is a graduate (in any discipline of study, including Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, Technology or Management) or above from any University recognized by UGC or students appearing for final year graduation will be eligible to enroll for the examination. (For the final year graduate students, the Diploma in Banking & Finance Certificate will be issued only on successful completion of the graduation course and production of Graduation Certificate)




Periodicity and Dates of Examination:

The examination will be held normally twice a year. The dates of the Examination will be notified on the web-site of the Institute at www.iibf.org.in




Enrolment Application Forms and Due Dates:

Enrolment Application/Examination Forms and Syllabus is available on the website of the Institute as given above or from any of the office/s of the Institute as per addresses given on the website. Enrolment Application Form/s for payment of CASH at Axis Bank are also available from any branch of the Axis Bank Ltd. (formerly UTI Bank Ltd.). Kindly note that Only Numbered Enrolment Apllication/Examination Forms avaialbel at Axis Bank or any of the Office/s of the Institute are to be used for making payment by CASH at any of the branches of Axis Bank Ltd.




Registration for Course and Examination and Fees:

Registration will be in two stages:

Stage 1 (Course Enrolment) : Candidates will be required to submit their Enrolment Application Form for the Diploma in Banking & Finance course against a payment of Fee of Rs.3,200/- upon which they will be given the Courseware and Examination Form for the Diploma in Banking & Finance.

Stage 2 (Examination Registration) : Candidates who are ready to appear for the examination should submit their Examination Form before the due date mentioned therein (viz., Due date for June Examination is 31st January and for December Examination is 31st July every year) against payment of Examination Fee of Rs.1,800/-. The Examination Fee is for one attempt for three subjects.




Mode of Payment and submission of applications:

The following options are available for submitting applications and making payments:

    On-line submission of Application (both for the course and examination) against making payment by Credit Card using Payment Gateway. For this facility, Click here.

   


    Submission of application form to the below mentioned address by making cash payment at any of the branches of the Axis Bank Ltd. (formerly, UTI Bank Ltd.) and attaching the Payment Receipt (IIBF's Copy) to the application. (List of AXIS BANK BRANCHES)

   


    Submission of application form with Demand Draft for the requisite amount drawn in favour of "Indian Institute of Banking & Finance" payable at the City where IIBF Zonal Office is located, viz., WZO-Mumbai; SZO-Chennai; NZO-New Delhi; EZO-Kolkata.

Refund of Fees: No request for refund of fees will be entertained if the application forms submitted are found to be in order. Refund will be made for the application forms rejected.

Examination Centres: As per the list attached to the Application/given on the IIBF's website. Examination shall be conducted at any of the listed centres provided minimum 25 candidates enroll.


Photo Identity Card and Examination Admit Card:

All the candidates whose applications were accepted will be issued, well in advance, a Photo Identity Card and Examination Admit Card indicating the venue and time-table for the examination. The Examination Admit Card will also be available from the website of the Institute. The Photo Identity Card and Examination Admit Card should be produced in the examination hall for each appearance.




Medium of Examination:

The examination will be conducted through the medium of English only




Duration of Examination, Questions Pattern and Negative Marking:

Duration of the Examination would be 120 minutes for each subject. Approximately 120 multiple choice questions to be answered in each paper.

Negative marking

will be applied in case of wrong answers at half of inverse proportion to the number of choices given in the question. For example, 1 mark question with 4 choices will have 1/8 as negative mark, if answered wrongly.

The questions, of three difficulty levels, viz., basic, intermediate, and advanced level, are designed to test the following

    Knowledge

    Conceptual grasp

    Decision making

    Problem solving

    Case analysis

There could be a case study with a set of about 5 questions.




Passing Criteria:

    Pass: Minimum 50% or more marks in aggregate with 45% or more in individual subjects in a single attempt.

    First Class: 70% or more marks in first attempt.

    First Class with Distinction: 80% or more marks in the first attempt

Repeaters will not be eligible for First Class and Distinction titles.

All the successful candidates will be ranked in order of merit.

Candidates have to pass all 3 papers in single attempt to get the qualification.

Repeaters need to re-register for the examination and appear for all papers.




Mode of Examination:

Examination will be conducted in Off-line mode ONLY, effective from December 2008 Exam.





Declaration of Results:

Declaration of the results will be within four weeks from the last date of the examination.



Issue of Certificate:

Diploma in Banking & Finance Certificate, indicating Order of Merit, will be issued to the successful candidates within two weeks from the date of declaration of results.

Verification of Marks:

No request for re-valuation of the candidate's paper will be entertained.

In case of off-line examination, if the candidate requires his/her marks to be verified, he/she may request the Institute accordingly. The request for verification of marks must be received in the Institute's Corporate Office at Mumbai within one month from the date of the declaration of the examination results. The candidate will have to pay a sum of Rs.150/- for the verification of marks for each subject of the diploma examination. The payment should be made by means of MICR crossed Demand Draft drawn in favour of " Indian Institute of Banking & Finance" and made payable at Mumbai. The candidates should write their Registration Number communicated to them on the Examination Admit Card on the reverse of the draft and on the application for verification of marks.

There will be a growing demand for qualified manpower for the banking and finance sector in the coming years on account of expansion of volume of business and large scale retirement of personnel. Banking and finance industry will require professionally qualified manpower endowed with banking and finance knowledge and skills together with technology-familiarity, customer-orientation and hands-on application skills who can be assigned to various desks/jobs with minimal training intervention at the bank level.

Hosting of the Resume of Successful candidates on IIBF's Website for employment:

IIBF will host on its website brief resume, with photograph of all the successful candidates and make it available to its Member Banks/Institutions which include Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India and its Associate Banks, Public Sector Banks, Private Sector Banks, Foreign Banks, Co-operative Banks and IT/BPO Companies providing services to banking industry, for considering them for employment.

The Institute has taken up the issue of recognition of its Diploma with banks and some of the banks have already recognised Diploma in Banking & Finance as a desirable qualification for recruitment(refer to the Industry recognition sction). The process of recognition in other banks is underway.

PAPER 1 - PRINCIPLES & PRACTICES OF BANKING


The Paper on Principles and Practice of Banking starts with an overview of Indian Financial System followed by modules which cover deposit, remittances, collection and allied services with emphasis on day to day operations. Special focus is given to Retail Banking which takes the participants through the concepts and processes of retail deposit and credit products in great detail. The flow of transactions in a centralized (Computerized) operating environment and delivery of services through multiple channels will be given adequate coverage to make the participants aware of the latest banking environment and practices.

The unit/chapter on Priority Sector Advances would give an overview of the rural economy and the special needs of the rural sector and the poorer sections of the society including Financial Inclusion. Micro Finance/SMEs/SHGs/Agriculture /SSI are also covered. The ways of meeting the financial needs of these sectors with innovative products and delivery methodologies are emphasized.

The Credit Module starts with understanding the financial needs of business entities and goes on to assessment of the requirements, structuring the assistance, delivering it, perfecting the security and managing the risk through proactive monitoring. Overview of capital market, money market, insurance and mutual funds and commodity exchanges are dealt with at the end.

The two modules on Marketing and Electronic Banking comprehensively covers marketing and selling, customer service, and IT skills with emphasis on CBS, internet banking, RTGS and other electronic products and channels to enhance the overall development of the participant.
